DREAM PLAYROOM REMODEL~NEW!
I designed and organized this playroom for a seven year old girl. The instructions were to organize the room however after an initial consultation, I was able to determine the needs and I designed and organized this playroom. The new playroom now consists of four distinct areas (see all photos below): 1) A desk area for homework and art. On either side of the vanity are two chests of drawers. The ones on the right hand side, hold art and homework supplies. The chest of drawer on the left holds toys. All of the drawers are labeled. I kept organization very simple so she could maintain the organization. 2) A vanity to hold her hair accessories. I put hooks on the wall and customized them to hold her necklaces and bracelets. A paper towel holder becomes a place to store her headbands. Inside the desk are craft organizers to hold her hair bands. A pull out tray holds her routines. A "Fun" box holds all of her nail polish. 3) A comfortable place for reading. The chair is actually a recliner and perfect for reading. The bookshelf is freestanding and holds her books and accessories. A pretty little kitty sits on the books on the bottom shelf. 4) A newly organized closet to hold her toys and for play. I worked with the client to downsize and donate many toys keeping only what she loved. |

How does a typical organization project work and what is the difference between organizing a room and re-designing a room?
At Dream Organizers, I can not only help you organize a room, but I can design a room as well with whatever theme your child wants. This is the major difference between what other organizers can do and what "Dream Organizers" does. I organize AND design room, in many cases, using a lot of what you have. Some clients just want help organizing a room and others want a whole new design but don't know where to start. Sometimes, all you need is a theme and I can take it from there. I'll present my design to you and give you options each step of the way.
For example, in this playroom, I selected the bookshelf and then gave the client three different options for the reading chair, all of which would work with the design of the room. I sent the client links for each of the chairs and then she made the final selection. I also like to reuse what you have. In this case, the desk was reused and the chair was reused. I reupholstered the chair in the same fabric as the window valence. We purchased a used child sized desk to function as the vanity. This room also has room to grow. The closet organizers are adjustable so as the needs change, the closet can too. The chest of drawers that now hold toys, could hold other office supplies or off season clothes as she turns into teenager and no longer needs the toys. I had glass tops made for the chest of drawers and the vanity to keep them nice. I personalized the room with inexpensive accessories that could easily be changed as she got older. For example, the necklace and bracelet holders could be changed to something else as she grows older.
I also differ from other organizers in that I design the room to support good organizational habits. I kept all of the organizational aspects simple for a seven year old. I also created a reading area to encourage reading, routines for before and after school to help keep things in order and I created a desk area for homework. The LOL hooks behind the door holds her school bags/backpack.
If you have a child with special medical needs, I can help organize and design a room for them as well.

"Before and After" photos of the playroom. In the "After" photo, the natural light and beautiful view were utilized when I created a desk area for art projects and homework. I made the valence and added black crystal bead trim which sparkles when the light comes through.
The chest of drawers to the right of the desk holds art supplies (crayons, markers, stickers) as well as homework/office supplies. The magazine holders hold school papers, coloring books and paper for art projects.
In the before photo, the closet lacked storage and was inefficient. In the after photo, I designed the shelving based on the storage needs, then installed "adjustable" closet organizers; the shelves are deep to allow for maximum storage and the shelves are adjustable to meet the child's changing needs as she transitions from a child to a teenager. In addition, should they ever sell the house, this playroom could easily be converted into a home office with the adjustable shelves being used for bulk office items. A one time investment in the closet storage system will meet the family's needs for years.
For the desk area, I repurposed an old desk they had in another area of the home. The three heart cut outs keep the room youthful for a seven year old. I took an oak chair they had, painted it high gloss black and upholstered the cushion with the fabric from the drapes.
The chest of drawers on the left holds Barbie dolls and other toys. A matching chest of drawers on the rights side of the desk holds art and homework supplies.
All of the furniture can be re-used as she grows or their needs change. The chest of drawers could easily hold office supplies for an adult office or the room could be converted into a guest room by adding a bed and using the chest of drawers as night stands.
This vanity area is just chock full of great ideas. Every little girl needs a place to do her hair and to store all of those hair supplies. I created this vanity by purchasing an old child's desk, perfect for her size. I had it painted white and installed all new hardware. I added a glass top to protect the surface, then customized the vanity area by adding a custom mongram to the vanity top, pretty black and white accents with the bow on the chair, the "fun" box for storage and the black oval mirror. I took large hooks and customized them with letters spelling out her name.
I designed and created headband storage using a paper towel holder. Craft organizers hold hair bands and barrettes inside the drawers, sorted by color.
In the photo on the right, I created custom necklace holders with her name on one and the word "star" on the other. I found a "LOL" wall hook, repainted it black and she uses it to store her backpack.
What a delightful area this is! The flowers on the left side of the mirror hold her bracelets and the hooks on the right hold her necklaces. In the top drawer, is a place for her hairbrush and combs.
In the photo on the right, a "FUN" blackand white box hold her manicure and pedicure supplies including artificial nails and stickers.
To say this is just a closet, is deceptive. It's actually a closet used for toy storage AND a play area. The Hannah Montana stages and other toys are on the lower shelves so she can play right there. The chair for her reading area is close by so she can not only play here but when she is done, close the doors. She actually sits on the floor and plays here or uses the seat of her reading chair for play. By keeping the play area here, putting items away is easier since they are right where they belong.
One request the client had was to keep the chalkboard in the room, it was already attached to the wall. I simply added a magnetic strip and canisters to hold her chalk.
The client had purchased this letter "e" for the room however I chose to customize it by adding a black polka dot ribbon. The polka dots keep the room "young" and not too grown up for a seven year old.
I created this area to encourage reading. One of the differences between Dream Organizers and other organizers is that I create organizational and design space layouts to support good organizing habits. Here, I created the reading area, complete with a reclining chair. A narrow 18 inch bookshelves holds books and small knick knacks.
The kitty is not only cute, but he repeats the black and white color scheme. And what little girl doesn't like kitties?
